Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering / Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Dual Degree)

Program Overview

Engineering and Biomedical science is a double degree that can lead to a rewarding career designing medical technology to improve human lives. The course lets you to combine one additional disciplines such as; anatomy, biochemistry, clinical medicine, epidemiology, preventative medicine, and more

You will undertake research methodology training and carry out an independent research project in your specialist field, working closely with a supervisor who will provide you with individual guidance and academic counselling. The course offers a pathway to higher level research in biomedical science. There is a wide breadth of biomedical research available that provides a high degree of flexibility for you to pursue your honours year in a field of your choice.

Studies can be undertaken within one of the schools of the faculty, including: Biomedical Sciences, Central Clinical School, Eastern Health Clinical School, and Public Health and Preventative Medicine.  Studies can also be undertaken with one of the affiliated institutes, such as the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute or the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute.

Specialisation: Mechanical Engineering
As a mechanical engineer, you might design advanced materials for supersonic and hypersonic space travel, design robots and automatic control systems, or work with medical professionals to investigate the human body and design instruments for medicine.

Mechanical engineering is about the efficient use of energy for the design and function of all types of mechanisms, from the simplest to the most complex. It builds on physics, chemistry, materials, mathematics and biology to achieve this goal.

Mechanical engineers design and develop everything from door locks to space shuttles. In fact, if it moves, you will find mechanical engineering at the heart of its design.
