Bachelor of Laws (honours) / Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics in Politics and Governance

Program Overview

A Bachelor of Laws and Politics, Philosophy and Economics pairs the real-world knowledge needed to understand different cultures, ideologies and environments with the legal expertise needed to foster positive change within them.

Whether you’re interested in international law, intellectual property, criminal law, human rights law, biotechnology law, tax or family law, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) will provide the expertise you need to reach your professional goals.

A Monash Law degree offers the idealistic person a realistic way to make a difference in the world.

Whether you aspire to work in a top-tier law firm, commercial or international law, a community legal centre or as an advocate for justice, a Monash Law degree lets you take the first step.

You will be building a solid foundation for a legal career, with your training beginning on day one.

In this practical Bachelor degree course, you'll also have the option of studying overseas, taking one of many different double degrees and gaining applied legal experience.

In your first year, you'll begin mastering the concepts, procedures and reasoning underpinning the Australian legal system.

Alongside this rigorous training in the basics, throughout your degree you'll also be able to pursue the areas of the law that interest you. You'll benefit from a range of specialist law electives as diverse as 'Negotiation and Conflict Resolution,' 'Media Law' or 'Animal Law.'

Specialisation: Politics and Governance
The study of politics and governance addresses important questions about the nature of power, authority and governance: who gets what, when and how. Yet politics is more than this and concerns notions of freedom and agency in situations of social choice. Politics and governance is an excellent discipline for learning about the interrelationships in the human world, and for acquiring a diverse range of interpretive, analytic skills. The discipline is engaged in critical debates about governance, policy creation and administration, social behaviour and political action including electoral processes, as well as the management or resolution of conflict, including relations between states. In this specialisation you will analyse government, policy and leadership, debates about development, international relations and the political economy of globalisation and global governance; make comparative analyses of political systems operating in different countries around the globe; and critically assess the ideas and ideologies shaping contemporary visions of just societies.
