Bachelor of Business

Program Overview

The Bachelor in Business will include domestic and international learners with the academic entry requirements to achieve success and the required English Language proficiency. Other target learners include mature learners as well as school leavers and the programme is also accessible to learners who wish to access the programme at stage 2 or 3 through the College processes for Recognition of Prior Learning, formal in the case of transfer students or informal or non-formal in the case of experienced applicants with a significant portfolio of prior experience.

This proposed programme is intended to provide learners with a broad-based, modern and relevant business degree, addressing all key areas of business; management and organisation, finance, human resources, marketing, law and governance, ICT, mathematics, statistics and economics. The programme (its content, and skills / knowledge structure) has been informed by an analysis of skills requirements, research and stakeholder engagement, including employers, recruiters, and existing learners.

On successful completion of the Bachelor in Business you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate specialised knowledge across a number of key integrated areas of business, to include management and organisation (accounting, finance, human resources, marketing, strategy), legal, ICT and economics such that the application of this breath of knowledge in appropriate business scenarios can be achieved.
  • Review theories, frameworks and models across various business sub-fields, showing limitations of current knowledge in various business contexts. Identification of new knowledge and integration of concepts across a variety of areas
  • Demonstrate and communicate a range of skills acquired across the programme, particularly in creatively solving business problems, using appropriate software, and presenting the results to a select audience.
  • Select and apply appropriate judgement and tools in planning and designing solutions to predefined business problems, for structured semi-structured and unstructured problems.
  • Interpret business problems within their context boundaries, draw on appropriate knowledge and analysis of data to provide a solution to these contextualised problems.
  • Maintain personal integrity that supports an environment built on trust, and supports personal and organisational development. Collaborate constructively in the work of a diverse group, taking on a leadership role, as well as becoming self-directed and self-aware as an individual.
  • Take responsibility for their own learning, identifying their own learning needs and that of their learning group, and have the ability to enhance their learning competencies through a variety of learning activities and assessments.
  • Reflect on and express their internalised view of the modern business world, its wider social, legal, ethical and operational environment, with due respect to the players and stakeholders in the business environment.

Why this Programme?

  • Strong focus on ICT and digital skills embedded throughout the programme;
  • Focus on transversal and cross-sectoral skills;
  • New tangible IT skills introduced in the first year building into business intelligence in year three giving learners a solid basis in modern data analysis;
  • Flexible new way of working e.g. communicating effectively via online communication and working effectively in distributed teams; and
  • Capstone module drawing together the threads of the programmes with an innovative and entrepreneurial ethos.

This ultimately prepares graduates for the labour market and for progression to further studies if they wish to do so. The programme also addresses the personal development of the individual and their preparation for life as active citizens in democratic societies.

Another reason for selecting this programme at IBAT College Dublin is the supportive college environment, small group practical classes and the College’s reputation for being responsive to learner needs.
