Additional Information

Year abroad

• Honours students spend a year abroad after Year 3, usually working as an English teaching assistant, gaining work experience in a professional environment or studying at a foreign institution. Students studying two languages may opt to spend third year in one country and a further year in the country of their other language, before returning to Strathclyde for Honours year.

Careers

• Many History graduates progress to careers in education, social welfare, the Civil Service and the Scottish Government or in areas such as finance. Some graduates work in teaching, museums or heritage, while others find satisfying careers in library and information science, arts management and administration or journalism.
• Many students expand their knowledge of history by taking further postgraduate study.
• Modern language graduates are in high-demand across a range of areas. Some language graduates become teachers or translators, while others work in multilingual or international environments. Many of our students now work in journalism and broadcasting.

Faculty of Engineering

• New scholarship value – Typically £6,240 (15% reduction, depending on tuition fee rate)

• Application process – Awards will be issued automatically to eligible offer holders. No further scholarship application is required

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

• New scholarship value - £6,000-£7,000 (depending on tuition fee bracket of programme)
• New scholarship deadline – 31^st January 2025
• Application process – Scholarship award will be confirmed upon receipt of deposit payment. No further scholarship application is required

• New scholarship value - £7,000-£9,000

There are various options through which a student can get a post study work visa in the UK. 
Tier 1 Graduate Entrepreneur Visa for the graduates with a genuine and credible business idea. 
Tier 2 (General) is the leading immigration visa to work in the UK.
Tier 4 Doctorate Extension Scheme is for students who have completed their Ph.D. and is valid for 12 months for them to work, look for work or set up a business. 
Tier 5 Youth Mobility is for individuals of certain countries like Australia, Canada, Japan, Monaco, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, and New Zealand aged between 18 -30 who wish to move to the UK. 
Tier 5 GAE is for individuals who want to come to the UK for work experience, training, research or a fellowship. 
UK Ancestry is for individuals who are a citizen of a commonwealth and plan to work in the UK and have a grandparent who was born in the UK.
