Bachelor of Arts in History

Program Overview

Bachelor of Arts is a comprehensive humanities and social sciences degree with a flexible course structure.

Major: History
History at Monash is one of the largest programs in Australia, covering American, Medieval and Renaissance, European, Australian, Asian, Jewish, global and contemporary histories.

Why choose history?
History is exciting, inspiring and diverse. Finding out about past peoples and societies opens up a world of fascinating stories and ideas. You’ll learn how history can inform the present and the future based on wise and unwise decisions made in the past. You’ll develop valuable skills in research, writing and forming a well-structured argument.

What will you study?
Our program will expose you to numerous past cultures around the globe and trace how they evolved and interacted to produce the world we live in today.

You will develop a unique, critical approach to examining texts, material artefacts and environments as you learn more about and compare between specific civilisations and from different points of view. Major themes include colonialism, health, technology, the environment, conflicts, race, gender, religion, cities and nationalism.
