This course aims to produce highly competent, work-ready graduates with in-depth discipline knowledge, and the professional and technical skills to work as socially responsible economists in the private and public sectors. The Bachelor of Commerce (Business Economics) integrates theory with real-world practice through UC's Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities, designed to prepare students for their future careers. UC provides diverse WIL options, including industry case studies, guest speakers, internships, work placements, industry projects, competitions, exhibitions, study tours, virtual experiences and more.
Through the WIL experiences, you’ll acquire the necessary professional skills consistent with industry expectations for your future career in the worlds of business, economics and commerce. Previous business economics students have undertaken internships and cadetships with a diverse array of leading partner organisations in both the public and private sectors.
The course culminates in a capstone project, which aims to integrate what you’ve learned across your degree and prepare you for the transition to either successful future employment or further studies.
Core Major: Commerce and Accounting
The BGL Core Major is a cohesive and scaffolded stream of professional education units that will enable students to integrate theoretical learning with practice throughout their degrees through authentic, real-world learning experiences.
The new world of work requires agile, multi-skilled professionals with the transferable employability skills and critical and creative abilities to work across their industries and to craft diverse and new employment paths. This Professional Core stream will equip students to succeed in this fluid environment. Academics and industry will work together to facilitate a range of diverse opportunities for students - from internships and placements to industry projects and competitions, exhibitions, study tours, virtual real world learning experiences and more ¿ to ensure an iterative and fully integrated professional and academic education. Through this dedicated focus our students will be professional, career-ready graduates: collaborative, self-aware, critical thinkers with contemporary and theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

Students who have completed their studies in Australia can apply for a Post Study Work Permit or a Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) to continue working in Australia post the completion of their study programs. As an international student, one can apply for the visa but not later than six months after completing your course. But to be eligible, you must meet the Australian Study Requirements, which include a minimum of 16 months of stay in Australia and a completing 92 weeks of a course registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).
