Midwives provide essential care during pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period to both mothers and their babies. This course will train you to become a qualified midwife, eligible to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. It'll give you a sound knowledge of what's normal and healthy in childbearing women and enable you to recognise and manage any problems that may arise. As well as studying the theory of midwifery, half of your time will be spent in various clinical settings, working alongside experienced midwives. The inclusion of the newborn and infant physical examination competency provides you with advanced knowledge to support the care provided. During the programme you'll also have an exciting opportunity to undergo an elective placement abroad or in the UK.
