This is a master's-level research program for students pursuing a M.S. in a biological discipline, broadly defined. It is intended for students who have completed undergraduate education. The Complex Biological Systems (CBS) Program will emphasize use-oriented, problem-focused education that comprehensively addresses the scales of societal problems and the connections between these scales. The program will build expertise and foster comprehensive understanding of problem complexity while building collaborative skills. M.S. students may take the non-thesis track and earn their degree following the successful completion of required and elective graduate coursework. M.S. students in the thesis track will develop and defend an in-depth thesis based on original research performed in the biological sciences. Program graduates will have the training and expertise to pursue doctoral studies, research positions in academia and industry, as well as other fields like teaching, project management, and consulting.
