Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology (STEM)

Program Overview

The Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) program ladders from the Associate of Applied Science Degree, adding more advanced engineering skill sets, including materials, machine design, fluid mechanics, circuits, thermodynamics, and heat transfer. Proficiency in industrial controls and automation along with advanced manufacturing methods in inventory control, quality improvement, and lean and optimization concepts are attained. Computer simulation to improve production processes is emphasized. Additional general education and mathematics through statistical methods are required.

Employees with MET degrees are typically classified as engineers, and tasked with computational challenges as well as performing extensive planning.  MET engineers are often responsible for the layout and operation of manufacturing processes, and are involved in material selection and manufacturing techniques that maximize the efficiency of bringing a product to market. Some design and analysis work are often required.  Many companies have these graduates take the role of project manager or shop floor manager.  This employee would often be charged with managing workers or technicians and have budget responsibility.
