Why Study Psychology
Based on the learning goals for undergraduate psychology recommended by the American Psychological Association, Governors State’s Bachelor of Arts in Psychology equips students with skills in critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and research, and offers a focus on cultural awareness, ethics, and personal development. As a psychology student, you will have the opportunity to advance your academic and professional interests through concentrations in Forensic Psychology, Mindfulness Studies, and Pre-Clinical Psychology. Students intending to pursue graduate study are encouraged to work closely with their advisors to strategically meet the requirements of graduate programs. You also have opportunities for gaining experience in research and field work in psychology.
Mindfulness Studies
In this concentration, you will study the practice of mindfulness: a self-regulation technique that focuses on training attention and awareness under greater voluntary control. Its practice has been shown to result in greater general mental well-being and specific benefits such as greater focus and relationship satisfaction and reduced stress and rumination (American Psychological Association).

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
