Program Overview

Students who have already completed Year 12 (or equivalent) may start with the Stage 2 Diploma, which has the same course content and structure as year one of the corresponding Curtin University undergraduate degree. Upon completion of your Diploma, you will progress directly into the second year of your Curtin University.

Stage2 - Diploma of Commerce - Business and Commerce
The Diploma of Commerce offers flexibility through four distinct pathways, allowing students to tailor their education to their specific interests and career goals.

Leading to: Bachelor of Commerce

This degree is designed to hone your skills in one or more business disciplines, readying you for a specialised career in this dynamic industry. It’s a great choice for pursuing careers such as an accountant, financial planner, business analyst, tourism marketing manager, talent acquisition specialist, or supply chain manager.

You’ll begin by studying a suite of core units in business. You'll explore value-creation in business, learn to use financial information to make informed and responsible decisions, and develop business intelligence and analytical capabilities to interpret data. This will provide you with a strong base to build on as you progress through the course. You'll also choose your preferred discipline/s, and begin study in this area.

In your second year, you'll continue to develop expertise in your chosen discipline/s. You’ll further develop your decision-making and leadership skills, which are essential in a future marketplace. You’ll also benefit from exposure to industry through field trips, work-related tasks, guest lectures and networking events.

In your final year you’ll undertake a capstone experience, enabling you to apply your skills in an industry environment.

Real-world learning is an important component of this degree. Depending on your chosen major, you might gain hands-on skills in industry software such as Refinitiv Workspace (for stock market trading and analysis), or have opportunities to undertake extra-curricular work experience, such as volunteering at the Curtin Tax Clinic.

As a graduate of this course, you’ll have the strong business acumen and specialised skillset required to thrive in your chosen career.

Major: Economics

Economists study more than just money – they analyse the world around them, from global markets to government policy to world events, to help make informed decisions in diverse industries. These decisions can impact how individuals and society access, consume and distribute wealth.

With a focus on applied economics, this major gives you the knowledge and skills to understand important real-world issues such as unemployment, housing affordability, climate change, energy challenges and inequality.

You will learn how to use big data, statistics, mathematics and business insights to evaluate trends and patterns in consumer spending, levels of competition in different industries, business cycles and financial crises.

Economics gives you the tools on how to think about things and the decisions we make and to create solutions. You’ll gain a solid foundation in macroeconomics (factors that impact an economy as a whole) and microeconomics (the function of individual markets). You’ll also develop strong communication and interpersonal skills to successfully share complex data with a general audience.

You’ll graduate from this course as a critical thinker with a keen understanding of the world and the ability to enhance economic activities in the public and private sectors.

Scholarships

High Achiever Scholarship

Covers 15% of any study period when achieved a 70% CWA.

This scholarship is only for international students. It will not extend to your first year at Curtin University.

Terms and Conditions:

This Scholarship is for full fee-paying, non-sponsored international students.
This Scholarship is only for international students at Curtin College. It excludes students enrolled in the Masters Qualifying Program (MQP).
This Scholarship is available to students who are packaged with Curtin University.
The Scholarship amount cannot be withdrawn by the student.
This Scholarship covers a maximum of 15% off the tuition fee for the subsequent Curtin College study period when you have achieved a minimum study period weighted average of 70% in your current study period and enrolled in a full-time study load for the current study period according to your study plan.
You are required to pay the full tuition fee amount stated on your Letter of Offer and student invoice, the amount of the scholarship will be credited as a refund in your student account if you have deemed eligible by the Curtin College Scholarship Committee.
You will not be eligible for the Scholarship if you are in receipt of any other scholarship/bursary/ sponsorship from Curtin College, Curtin University or any other third party. The scholarship can be revoked at the discretion of the College if you already have a scholarship or sponsorship.
This Scholarship is not transferable or refundable.
The Scholarship must be taken up in the calendar year for which they are offered.
This Scholarship can be revoked if you do not accept your Letter of Offer or enrol into your Curtin College and Curtin University course by the dates specified in your Letter of Offer.
The Scholarship will not be extended beyond its prescribed duration or amount unless notified otherwise by the College.
Curtin College reserves the right to vary or add to any of these terms and conditions at its discretion with adequate notice.

To retain the scholarship:

If you apply for Deferral, you will not be eligible for the scholarship upon your return.
If you withdraw, defer or are terminated from your course, you will not be eligible for the continuation of the scholarship.
To retain eligibility for the Scholarship (unless there are exceptional circumstances), you must remain enrolled in your initial course at Curtin College and Curtin University (with the exception of your major) according to your study plan and maintain a study period weight average of 65% and pass all units attempted.
You must remain enrolled as an international student for the duration of the Scholarship. If your citizenship changes during the Scholarship period, the Scholarship will only be applied to the units you completed as an international student.
You must enrol in all units each period according to your approved study plan. which constitutes a maximum of four (4) units of study or a minimum of three (3) units of study.
You must not breach the scholarship terms and conditions outlined in this document.
You must comply with all other College rules and regulations.

Progression Scholarship :

CU will give 20% for the entire duratin of the course if achieved 70% CWA. (Undergraduate or Master by coursework).

Work Permit

PGWP

Students who have completed their studies in Australia can apply for a Post Study Work Permit or a Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) to continue working in Australia post the completion of their study programs. As an international student, one can apply for the visa but not later than six months after completing your course. But to be eligible, you must meet the Australian Study Requirements, which include a minimum of 16 months of stay in Australia and a completing 92 weeks of a course registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).
