Graduate Certificate in Human Resources Management - Canadian Context

Program Overview

Developed in response to the growing need for skilled graduates specialized in human resources, the Human Resources Management – Canadian Context graduate certificate program is specifically designed to prepare international students with the knowledge, skills and expertise required to understand human resources practices in Canada and to work within the Canadian industry.

From recruitment and selection to training and development, a career in human resources (HR) requires a focus on both strategy and people. Skill, knowledge and ability in human resource planning, occupational health and safety, compensation, hiring, employee development, labour relations and managerial accounting enable HR professionals to contribute to business success in an increasingly competitive global marketplace while looking after the organization’s most important asset – its employees.

Courses in this program immerse international students in a specialized learning environment that encourages them to think critically to solve complex problems by combining artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, online simulations, international case competitions, real-world case studies and interaction with industry professionals to support their future careers in the industry.

This program includes all nine courses required to meet the academic component of either the Certified Human Resources Professional Designation (CHRP) or the Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation. Students who receive an average grade of 70 per cent in these courses and maintain a minimum grade of 65 per cent in each course, meet the coursework requirements to write the Comprehensive Knowledge Exam 1 (CKE1) and Comprehensive Knowledge Exam 2 (CKE2) – a significant step towards achieving the CHRP or CHRL designation in Ontario. For further information regarding designations granted by the Human Resources Professionals Association, please visit www.hrpa.ca.

Through a variety of specialized courses, an Orientation to Canada and Canadian Business first semester and a mandatory 14-week, 420-hour work-term placement within a Canadian human resources organization, students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills required to successfully apply their skills in the actual field. The work-term placement provides hands-on learning, valuable career experience and an opportunity for the graduate to move into a human resources management role. DC is dedicated to assisting students in securing their work-term placement and supports them throughout the process.
