The need to develop globally aware students has meant that our curriculum is structured so that the units offered reflect both national and international matters. As an interdisciplinary course you will have the opportunity to develop a critical and an analytical mind and explore issues from diverse theoretical perspectives. Because of the nature of this course, volunteering is embedded in the various units, so students are exposed to real life situations, events and policy matters, and as such able to appreciate the link between theory and practices.

The course is taught by staff who are research active in the different fields of social sciences such as human rights, trafficking, gangs, contextual safeguarding, gambling industry, and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, policing, social justice, housing, public policy, youth crime and violence, prisons and offender management. Since its introduction, the course has attracted students from diverse social backgrounds, ethnicity and nationality; thus, providing richness in student experiences and learning.

In the first year, you will be introduced to the intellectual foundations of both subjects and core skills in social sciences and research.
