As an undergraduate student in Duquesne’s Department of English, you’ll build on the university’s liberal arts foundation with intensive studies in literature, language and writing. You’ll have flexibility in what path you choose to follow through a rich global literary landscape as you prepare for a life of intellectual exploration and diverse professional opportunities.
You’ll be immersed in the art of literary analysis, learning how to analyze and interpret various forms of literature, including poetry, fiction, drama and nonfiction, while also studying an array of critical theories through which to examine literature, such as Marxism, feminism and postcolonialism. You’ll explore literary history, delving into literary movements and genres to parse the evolution of the language and how it’s been used to express the human experience over the centuries.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
