• Minimum Level of Education Required: To be accepted into this program, applicants must have a Bachelor's Degree in computer science from a regionally accredited college or university or a baccalaureate degree in any other field with additional prerequisites.
  • Prerequisites (for non-computer science majors) with a grade of "B" or higher:
  • COSC 501 - Fundamentals of Data Structures and Algorithm Analysis
  • COSC 502 - Computer Organization and Assembly Language for Non-CS/CIS Major, as determined by the graduate program director. 
  •  MATH 263 - Discrete Mathematics (MATH 263 is not required for students who have an engineering or mathematics baccalaureate degree.)
  • Students may repeat prerequisite courses no more than two times to be eligible to take graduate-level courses.

Towson University (TU)
Graduate students admitted to Towson University for Fall 2025 will receive a $1,000 USD scholarship—no application needed! Here are the details:

• Available for graduate students (except for those in the Applied Information Technology MS program)
• Split across Year 1: $500 for Fall 2025 & $500 for Spring 2026
• May not be combined with other scholarships for Year 1 (but additional funding may be available in Year 2)
• Visa Denial? No problem! TU will honor the scholarship if the student defers to Spring 2026.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.
