Program Overview

As a student in the Classical Languages BA program at UMass Boston you’ll have the opportunity to explore the rich history and culture of ancient Greece and Rome through the study of Latin and Greek. Gain a deep understanding of the languages, literature, philosophy, and history of the classical world, and develop advanced language skills that can be applied to a wide range of academic and professional pursuits.

In this program, you will:

Hone your Latin and Greek language skills, and be able to read and interpret a wide range of ancient texts, including epic poetry, drama, philosophy, and historical accounts

If students are arriving before the move in date, they need to make their own accommodation arrangements.
We recommend your students to accept their Offer letters as early as possible and not wait until the last minute due to the anticipated backlog in visa appointment availability.
Students cannot enter the U.S. more than 30 days before their I-20 Program Start Date. They could be turned away at the border or future benefits may be denied.
Limited Merit scholarships are still available for high achieving students.

Work Permit

PGWP

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.
