Are you interested in a career in marketing management or marketing research/marketing analytics? With an emphasis on practical and experiential learning, Marketing majors at Western New England University have opportunities to strengthen their management, research/analytical, and team-based skills as they create and present marketing plans to real business clients.
Why Choose Marketing?
Today, more than ever, students need to have a competitive advantage as they enter the global business environment. Marketing majors learn how to create marketing strategies and tactics to develop marketing plans. Those who choose Marketing as a major will receive practical experience that will strengthen their skill sets at becoming marketing or marketing research managers.
What Will You Study?
Preparing you for the real world with experiential learning activities is a key goal of the Marketing major. You'll get a firsthand look at how organizations market themselves with interesting hands-on class assignments. Research projects for companies, organizations, and even city governments provide valuable experience for our students. For example, in the Marketing Research course, students worked with the Springfield Chamber of Commerce constructing a survey, analyzing data, and making a final presentation to the client. In our Sales and Sales Management course, students compete on the local and national levels with their digital presentations that are judged by professionals in companies such as Northwestern Mutual.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):
