Program Overview

The Bachelor of Social Work (Honours) / Bachelor of Social Sciences is a five-year double degree when studied full-time. The program prepares you to improve lives by working directly with vulnerable individuals and driving political change. Discover how social workers and social scientists shape genuinely transformative experiences for us all.

Build experience across diverse human services such as mental health, social work counselling, community work, sociology, psychology, and working with Indigenous communities.You’ll also analyse and understand myriad political, international, social, environmental, and economic challenges using social research skills and real-life experience.

Experience practical and theoretical classes under direct guidance from industry professionals and current social workers. In addition to two social work placements, you’ll have opportunities for social science projects and internships in Australia and overseas.Graduate with real connections, real experience, and skills accredited by the Australian Association of Social Workers.

Contemporary media is dynamic, global, increasingly complex and always influential in our daily lives. By studying media, culture & technology at UNSW, you'll investigate the professional, social, cultural, political, economic and philosophical aspects that contemporary media technologies, industries and practices have on our everyday lives. Led by academics actively engaged in media industries, media, culture & technology at UNSW opens up a world of opportunities to help you pursue your media career.

There are a variety of avenues to study media, culture & technology at UNSW to ensure your degree is tailored to your specific interests. You can choose to study a Bachelor of Media with specialisations in public relations and advertising, communication and journalism, or screen and sound production. Alternatively, you can take the media, culture and technology major in the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Social Sciences. We also offer a Master of Public Relations and Advertising and a Master of Journalism and Communication.

Work Permit

Students who have completed their studies in Australia can apply for a Post Study Work Permit or a Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) to continue working in Australia post the completion of their study programs. As an international student, one can apply for the visa but not later than six months after completing your course. But to be eligible, you must meet the Australian Study Requirements, which include a minimum of 16 months of stay in Australia and a completing 92 weeks of a course registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).
