Master of Applied Science - Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Program Overview

Join the only graduate program in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science in Canada. It provides you with breadth, as well as specializations in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Software Engineering.

Our program has 120 students supervised by 50 professors, whose research ranges from biomedical engineering to virtual reality and from data mining to nanoelectronics. More detailed information about specific research topics can be found on the websites of the research groups and professors associated with our program. Graduates of our program have ended up both in academia and industry. Former students can now be found at companies such as Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, IBM, Microsoft, NASA and Uber.

In our program, you can pursue a Master of Science (Computer Science), a Master of Applied Science (Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Software Engineering), or a Doctor of Philosophy (all four fields of specialization).

You are expected to complete the MSc or MASc degree in 20 months, while the PhD is a four year degree program. All three degrees emphasize research. As a MASc student you take a full-year research project course that greatly enhances and broadens your skills and experience. As a PhD student you either complete a one-term industrial internship or you teach a one-term course under the supervision of a professor.

As a student you work in state of the art labs in the Lassonde Building and the brand new Bergeron Centre for Engineering Excellence. Several students and professors are associated with specialized research units such as the Centre for Vision Research, the York Centre for Field Robotics, and Centre for Innovation in Computing @ Lassonde. Many professors have collaborative research partnerships with organizations ranging from the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to General Motors.
