Become proficient in the methodologies and technologies involved in remote sensing, spatial analysis, and geographic data mapping in the master’s in geographic information science program at the University at Albany.

After earning your master’s, you’ll be ready for a range of careers that require expertise in spatial analysis technologies and applications that utilize geographic positioning systems.
Program alumni pursue GIS-related employment with regional, state, and federal government agencies, civil engineering corporations, private-sector consulting companies, environmental protection and land management firms, and nonprofit groups that utilize social and spatial data.

The University at Albany Global Excellence Scholarships are awarded to incoming international students based on academic achievement as well as other qualifications, as determined by the admissions committee.
The maximum scholarship award is $20,500 per year for first-year (freshmen) applicants, for a potential total of $82,000 over four years. These scholarships are renewable, provided the student maintains a grade point average of 2.5 or higher and remains continuously enrolled as a full-time student at UAlbany paying out-of-state tuition.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
