Western Australia is known for its mineral wealth and UWA has built an international reputation in ore deposit geology over several decades including strong collaboration with the minerals industry. This course focuses on the formation, exploration and evaluation of ore deposits. Increasingly innovative techniques are being used in this field including data integration and modelling approaches, and this is reflected in the opportunities provided by this degree to strengthen your geoscientific, computing, exploration and management skills. The course includes significant practical work and opportunities to undertake field excursions with research leaders in earth sciences to mineralised regions in Australia and overseas. Strong research activity at UWA means there is also potential to undertake a research project in a wide variety of mineral geoscience topics and in conjunction with the minerals industry. The course also offers opportunities to undertake coursework units at partner universities in Australia to gain broader experience and develop complementary skills in topics such as resource economics and financial management.
