The undergraduate major in forestry is a science-based program leading to the Bachelor of Science degree. The forestry major offers concentrations in Environmental Conservation, Forest Business, Forest Management, Forest Products, Urban Forestry, and Wildlife Management. These concentrations are accredited by the Society of American Foresters (SAF). These programs prepare graduates for professional careers in forest resource management and use. By combining a broad general education with specialized professional courses, the curriculum is designed to produce professionally competent graduates who have skills in interpersonal communications, written and oral communications, and cultural understanding. Graduates of all five concentrations are fully qualified as entry-level professionals and prepared for career advancement into positions of increasing responsibility, while serving the current and future needs of society.
Urban Forestry
Designed to prepare students to address emerging needs for the management of trees in our towns and cities, and the urban/wildland interface. Urban and community foresters manage trees along city streets, in municipal parks, private woodlots, and utility right-of-ways. Employers include federal, state, and municipal governments, private consultants, and industry.

Academic Scholarships
Scholarship Information: The General Scholarship Application (GSA) opens on October 1st. The priority date for entering freshmen to submit the GSA is December 1st. The priority date for transfers is March 1st.For most academic, leadership and service scholarships students will need to maintain a 3.0*.
GPA requirements for maintaining MSU scholarships are based on eligibility according to specific scholarship awards, details, and requirements stated by each individual scholarship.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):
