Welcome to the mathematics department at Santa Monica College, a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). Our staff, faculty and tutors welcome you to our learning community, which promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are dedicated and recognize our responsibility to contribute to reducing equity gaps in mathematics education for historically marginalized groups, particularly Black and Latinx students. The success of students in mathematics is a shared responsibility with the campus community and thus we partner with our colleagues to strengthen the student support network.
Culturally responsive and active learning teaching practices drive department pedagogy to engage, motivate, and inspire students to develop the skills and critical thinking needed for real-world math applications and careers in STEM. We include and value the achievements of underserved racial groups who have contributed significantly to the field of mathematics
