Bachelor of Science in Mathematics

Program Overview

This degree will stimulate your critical thinking and problem-solving skills to help you to be competitive across all science-led disciplines.

Your science degree begins with a suite of introductory subjects in which you will learn and explore core science concepts across physical, life, data and mathematical science disciplines and develop and strengthen key scientific and transferable skills, providing a transformative learning experience that will underpin your future studies and careers.

Major :Mathematics

Mathematics is more than just numbers and letters. It is the ability to problem solve, think logically and identify similar patterns in a variety of applications and contexts. It is also the transcribing of these patterns and relationships into symbolic or abstract form as a mathematical model, making it possible to analyse the patterns, identify the mechanisms that generate them and find solutions to the real-world system or problem that the model represents.

By studying an (applied) mathematics major at RMIT you will learn to think logically, approach problems in analytical and creative ways, and prepare for career opportunities in areas such as banking finance, information security, cybersecurity, public health, logistics, government agencies and research organisations, mathematical biology, and environmental modelling to name a few. You will acquire the skills to:

  • Model complex systems for understanding natural or human-based processes
  • Apply mathematics concepts and theories for analysing and optimising decisions
  • Use technology and programming to transform theoretical analysis into efficient and practicable solutions.
