Program Overview

Students who have already completed Year 12 (or equivalent) may start with the Stage 2 Diploma, which has the same course content and structure as year one of the corresponding Curtin University undergraduate degree. Upon completion of your Diploma, you will progress directly into the second year of your Curtin University Bachelor's degree program.


Stage2 - Diploma of Arts and Creative Industries - Communication, Design and Arts
The Diploma of Arts and Creative Industries leads into the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Communications, Bachelor of Creative Arts or Bachelor of Design. You will learn transferable skills in communication, creativity, critical thinking, digital knowledge, presentation, problem solving, research and teamwork that can be applied to a range of workplaces in the creative industry.

If you’re passionate about pursuing a career in the creative industries, this course will provide you with the skills and experience you need to take your career anywhere in the world.

You’ll gain a broad-based, contemporary understanding of theory and practice in your chosen major, learning from discipline experts and industry professionals who share their innovative, passionate and contemporary knowledge of the creative arts.

You'll also gain first-hand experience working with industry-standard equipment in our Media Production Studio, Hayman Theatre and the Design and Art precinct studios, labs and galleries.

With professional internships available and opportunities to exhibit, perform and screen works to the public, you'll be immersed in the creative sector well before you graduate.


Major: Theatre Arts
This major equips you with the creative practice and the theory you need to perform both on and off the stage. It is a comprehensive training ground for passionate theatre artists.

At Curtin you will benefit from studying  in the longest-established theatre arts course in Western Australia. You’ll develop the full range of fundamental skills, theoretical understanding, and practical experience of theatre and performance practice. These include:

What you'll learn

  • Apply knowledge of the discipline of Theatre Arts to creative practice, production, practice-led research and interpretation. Conduct both theoretical and practice-led research methods to synthesis and evaluate diverse sources of information.
  • Identify and initiate ways to develop performance skills and experience in order to develop learning; engage in critical and reflective practice in theory and practice to generate new knowledge and create original performance.
  • Identify, engage and apply global perspectives within the fields of performance and performance making.
  • Recognise the vital contribution of inter-cultural approaches to performance and performance making and demonstrate respect for Indigenous values, cultures and knowledges cultural.
  • Initiate individual and collaborative projects based on a sound knowledge of the principles of the Theatre Arts field and best professional practice.
