The foundation of Human Nutrition and Performance specialization is to extend and apply your knowledge of human anatomy and physiology to practical settings. Those who’ve completed Human Nutrition and Performance specialization in our Biological Science program have a comprehensive understanding of nutrition that is required specific for better athletic performance in all sports and how it applies to practical settings. At Salem University, our Bachelor of Science in Biology with a specialization in Human Nutrition and Performance is a 40-month course that’s taught out of our beautiful West Virginia campus and includes:
With Human Nutrition and Performance specialization, you’ll start with acquiring knowledge and skills related to physical, biological and health sciences as a whole. From there, you’ll build on that base by studying topics like nutrition requirements for skeletal structure , muscles and nervous motor components, how the body responds to dietary supplements nutrition, how to assess performance based on nutrition, how internal biology influences outer functions such yoga exercise including pre and probiotics nutrition related to boost your immune system, and so on. In all of these courses, we like to focus on practical applications of these concepts for you to better apply what you’re learning and the skills and tasks you’ll need on the job.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
