A major in psychology provides an appropriate background for a variety of professions in which an understanding of the principles of human behavior is important.All psychology majors are encouraged to undertake an internship or related experience. Recent internship placements in psychology include Johns Hopkins University, Violence Intervention Program, Suicide Prevention Education Coalition, the Oneonta City School District, the Boys and Girls Club, Collingham Gardens Child Psychiatric Unit (London), and the Law, Order, and Justice Center. Study Psychology at Hartwick College and you’ll be part of a broad-based, research-focused program that prioritizes collaborations with your faculty. You’ll have opportunities to collect data in the lab, get real-world practice with medical professionals, or gain experience working alongside licensed therapists in patient-centered counseling services.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
