Bachelor of the Built Environment in Interior Architecture, Specialist Major in Interior Architecture

Program Overview

The Bachelor of the Built Environment (Interior Architecture) provides an essential introduction to the field of interior spatial design. In line with the opportunities and constraints generated by a globalised and rapidly changing world, you’ll explore a mixture of urban environments and public spaces, and will analyse their context in modern society.

You’ll develop a robust series of creative and critical-thinking skills which will allow you to visualise the potential of interior environments, communicate your ideas using digital design software and, ultimately, shape the way humans experience and interact with interior spaces. Successful completion of the course will provide you with the skills and knowledge required to practice as a dynamic, agile and creative interior design professional.

Study a Bachelor of the Built Environment (Interior Architecture) at UC and you will:

  • Evaluate the role of interior architecture from a range of different environmental, cultural, historical and interdisciplinary contexts
  • Interrogate the traditional boundaries of interior architecture
  • Collaborate, develop, discuss and debate ideas in a professional industry framework
  • Use and evaluate a range of innovative industry-standard creative technologies in response to diverse and complex design problems.

Work Integrated Learning

A feature of this course includes engaging with leading design professionals and industry practitioners to gain valuable real-world interior architecture experience through the delivery of a series of ‘live’ projects. Internships at local, national and international interior architecture and interior design firms are also promoted.

Specialist Major: Interior Architecture

The Interior Architecture course major provides a fundamental introduction to the field of interior spatial design.

Throughout the Interior Architecture major, an emphasis on contemporary practice and research develops students ability to think conceptually and understand the complex contexts in which they are designing. Collaborative design studio units underpin the course major, providing students with varied opportunities to develop, discuss and debate ideas as they would in industry. The design studio units are augmented by unit sets in interior architecture, technology, and digital design and fabrication, thereby ensuring that successful completion of the major will equip students with the skills and knowledge required to practice as dynamic and agile design professionals.

Of significance to the experience of the course major is the prioritisation of industry engagement through the delivery of 'live' projects, and participation of leading design professionals and industry practitioners.
