Our School offers programs of study for full time and part-time students leading to the degrees of Master of Science (MS) in Mechanical Engineering, MS in Materials Science & Engineering, and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering (all on the Pullman campus). Our School participates in the interdisciplinary degree programs of MS in Engineering, Ph.D. in Engineering Science, and Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering. Thesis and non-thesis options are available for the MS degree. Programs of study are individualized with an interdisciplinary focus. Students are expected to pursue their degree programs with success and to earn the MS degree in two years and the Ph.D. in four years. The program will culminate with a final oral examination and a written thesis (MS thesis option), project report (MS non-thesis option), or dissertation (Ph.D.). Financial aid in the form of an assistantship is available for dedicated, quality full time MS and Ph.D. students.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
