Specialist Major: Creative Writing
The writing program at The University of Canberra is the oldest tertiary writing program in Australia, with a long and established record of excellence. The Bachelor of Arts (Creative Writing) is staffed by award winning, industry-active novelists, poets, screenwriters, editors and publishers who will help you emerge from your degree with a portfolio of dynamic, creative and professional work.
You'll have the opportunity to experiment in different modes of creative writing including prose fiction, poetry, writing for young people, screenwriting, and narrative nonfiction. You will learn to build narratives, craft language and hone your critical skills. In addition to lectures, seminars and tutorials you will learn through project work, mentorships, professional experience, and have opportunities for international study. The specialist major in creative writing will provide you with a broad and flexible set of skills and knowledge that you can carry with you to all manner of workplaces.

Students who have completed their studies in Australia can apply for a Post Study Work Permit or a Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) to continue working in Australia post the completion of their study programs. As an international student, one can apply for the visa but not later than six months after completing your course. But to be eligible, you must meet the Australian Study Requirements, which include a minimum of 16 months of stay in Australia and a completing 92 weeks of a course registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).
