Our biology labs are as big as the Great Lakes. Literally. See how much you can accomplish when your research program has its own biological station on Lake Michigan.
Why This Program & What You'll Learn
As a master's student in biology, you won't just conduct meaningful research. You'll find your lab work intertwined with field opportunities. This hands-on program gives you a chance to work with our distinguished faculty while exploring the natural wonders that surround us in Michigan.
You'll choose from two tracks in this program. The first is meant for students preparing for research-oriented careers or further study and requires a thesis. Most students pursue this option. Some students follow a non-thesis option. Your coursework will be approved by your advisory committee, and you'll complete minor research or independent study report.
Conservation Biology
Careers protecting the environment start here. Learn the latest field techniques and conduct research at our new Biosciences Building or our biological station on Beaver Island. When you graduate with a concentration in conservation biology, you'll be ready for a career at a conservation agency or in government, or to pursue a Ph.D.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
