Transform numbers and data into real-world insights. The master’s program in applied statistics & analytics provides you with advanced knowledge and real-world applications in data science. You’ll also learn valuable teamwork and presentation skills that are essential in the workplace.
We offer several sequences of coursework. These include data management and programming; data mining predictive modeling; big data analytics option; and applied statistics option.
Most of the courses require a semester-long research project. You are encouraged to exhibit your projects at the annual poster presentation. Outstanding projects are recommended for international project competitions organized by the SAS Institute. In previous years, several student projects have won the competitions.
The statistician employment rate is expected to increase 31% by 2028 projected by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It is rated the best 6th best job of all disciplines and No. 1 in Best Business Jobs, according to U.S. & World Reports “2020 Best Job Ranking”.
Partnering with the SAS Institute, the world leader in analytics, we prepare you for two SAS professional certificate programs. One is Certified Specialist: SAS Base Programming Certification Exam. The other is Predictive Modeler Professional Certification Exam.
We offer graduate teaching assistantships to master's students. Teaching assistantships are determined by the graduate committee based on academic credentials and previous teaching performance.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):
