Have you always dreamed of becoming an actor, singer or dancer? Develop the expertise as a performer in theatrical genres that blend acting, music and dance. Music theatre can prepare you for a number of careers in the exciting world of performing arts.
Why This Program & What You'll Learn
Learn from visiting professional performers, Fulbright scholars, playwrights, directors, designers, choreographers and others. Become a better actor, singer and dancer with the help of accomplished and experienced faculty in our music theatre program. And broaden your knowledge in playwriting, choreography, set design, or directing depending on your goals. As a well-rounded performer, you'll be ready for anything – whether on stage or behind it..
Starting your very first year, you'll demonstrate what you've learned in the classroom onstage. Each year our program sponsors over 25 productions for students, including six major productions, studio and summer theatre productions and more.
Plus, our unique Summer Theatre program gives you the opportunity to perform in venues across the state, such as Beaver Island's BIC Center and The Playhouse at White Lake–all while earning money and college credit. Our alumni consider this opportunity to be one of their most valued experiences at CMU.
Our department's many resources will be available to you as well. This includes access to roughly 50,000 costumes, a design/tech lab, costume shops and stellar performance venues.
Our alumni have pursued successful careers on Broadway, in regional theatre groups, in film and television and more.

OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):
