Career Opportunities
Many of our graduates go on to have careers in legal practice. The Solicitors’ Qualifying Examination (SQE) has made the routes to becoming a solicitor more flexible. Although some students enrol on the Legal Practice Course, a greater number now enter employment as a paralegal upon completion of their law degree, often studying for the SQE at the same time. Our degree programme also includes all the foundational legal subjects to complete the academic stage of training to become a barrister.

As a result of our conversations with employers, we have enhanced the employability of our graduates by providing exposure to an increased range of legal and ‘soft’ skills involving interacting with clients, advising the public, interviewing and oral presentation skills would all enhance the employability of graduates.

You will have a number of opportunities to increase your employability whilst study Law with us, including:

• Volunteering as a student legal advisor in the university’s Legal Advice Centre
• Developing your advocacy skills by participating in the David White Memorial Trust Mooting Competition in our new mock courtroom
• Gaining a valuable insight into an area of legal practice through our one day per week placement scheme during your second or third year
• Meeting legal practitioners through your modules and extra-curricular activities
• Developing your awareness of the legal sector through employability and networking events

Vice-Chancellor's Excellence in Health Scholarship

The University of Suffolk Vice-Chancellor's Excellence in Health Scholarship is a new and exciting scheme to reward exceptional international applicants who have a strong track record of academic achievement and show a commitment to having a transformative impact both during their studies and after graduation. This scheme is aimed at students intending to pursue one of our eligible professional health degrees.

We will be awarding fifty (50) Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence in Health Scholarships of £4,000 value each in the 2025/26 academic year.

• Undergraduate students will be awarded the Vice-Chancellor's Excellence in Health Scholarship in each year of study (excluding sandwich/placement/study abroad years - see terms and conditions below)
• This is not an automatic scholarship - eligible students will be invited to submit a scholarship application once an offer of admission has been made
• Scholarships are awarded as fee discounts

International Merit Scholarship

The University of Suffolk International Merit Scholarship (2025/26) is a scheme designed to reward international students who meet or exceed our published entry requirements (based on the country where you obtained your qualifications). The scheme is open to applicants of undergraduate and postgraduate-taught programmes delivered by the University of Suffolk at the Ipswich campus. 

The awards are £1,000 - £3,000 based on your academic achievements and level of study.

Bursaries and Scholarships

University of Suffolk Bursary

• The University of Suffolk Bursary is open to full-time and part-time University of Suffolk students starting an undergraduate degree programme in 2025-26. Successful applicants will receive a £500 bursary in each of their three years of study, subject to successful progression. Part-time students will receive £500 pro rata per year of study.

Ipswich Award

• The University of Suffolk is offering an exciting £1000 award for students starting on undergraduate courses at the Ipswich Campus.

Postgraduate Scholarships

There are a variety of Masters scholarships and bursaries are available for postgraduate degrees. Charities and government funding bodies all provide financial support for further study, helping to cover tuition fees and living costs. We have provided a list below of some available.

Tier 1 Graduate Entrepreneur Visa for the graduates with a genuine and credible business idea.

Tier 4 Doctorate Extension Scheme is for students who have completed their Ph.D. and is valid for 12 months for them to work, look for work or set up a business. 
Tier 5 Youth Mobility is for individuals of certain countries like Australia, Canada, Japan, Monaco, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan, and New Zealand aged between 18 -30 who wish to move to the UK. 
Tier 5 GAE is for individuals who want to come to the UK for work experience, training, research or a fellowship. 
UK Ancestry is for individuals who are a citizen of a commonwealth and plan to work in the UK and have a grandparent who was born in the UK.
