Careers

This is a vocational counselling training with humanistic, psychodynamic and cognitive behaviour therapy, leading to work in the voluntary or statutory provision of counselling and supportive care and private practice.

You will have completed 100 hours of placement working with individual counselling clients, building valuable work experience required for a variety of employment.

Placements settings can be in voluntary, private or statutory settings, such as the NHS, college counselling services, hospice, local specialist charities offering general mental health or specialist care. You will be equipped to work with people who are in difficult or distressing circumstances or are dealing with challenging life events.

You will also acquire research skills and evidence-based approaches to therapy, which can lead to Masters level training or continue to develop your professional membership of bodies such as the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, (BACP) or to build on training to apply to the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).

Vice-Chancellor's Excellence in Health Scholarship

The University of Suffolk Vice-Chancellor's Excellence in Health Scholarship is a new and exciting scheme to reward exceptional international applicants who have a strong track record of academic achievement and show a commitment to having a transformative impact both during their studies and after graduation. This scheme is aimed at students intending to pursue one of our eligible professional health degrees.

We will be awarding fifty (50) Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence in Health Scholarships of £4,000 value each in the 2025/26 academic year.

• Undergraduate students will be awarded the Vice-Chancellor's Excellence in Health Scholarship in each year of study (excluding sandwich/placement/study abroad years - see terms and conditions below)
• This is not an automatic scholarship - eligible students will be invited to submit a scholarship application once an offer of admission has been made

International Merit Scholarship

The University of Suffolk International Merit Scholarship (2025/26) is a scheme designed to reward international students who meet or exceed our published entry requirements (based on the country where you obtained your qualifications). The scheme is open to applicants of undergraduate and postgraduate-taught programmes delivered by the University of Suffolk at the Ipswich campus. 

The awards are £1,000 - £3,000 based on your academic achievements and level of study.

Bursaries and Scholarships

University of Suffolk Bursary

• The University of Suffolk Bursary is open to full-time and part-time University of Suffolk students starting an undergraduate degree programme in 2025-26. Successful applicants will receive a £500 bursary in each of their three years of study, subject to successful progression. Part-time students will receive £500 pro rata per year of study.

Ipswich Award

• The University of Suffolk is offering an exciting £1000 award for students starting on undergraduate courses at the Ipswich Campus.

Postgraduate Scholarships

There are a variety of Masters scholarships and bursaries are available for postgraduate degrees. Charities and government funding bodies all provide financial support for further study, helping to cover tuition fees and living costs. We have provided a list below of some available.
