The purpose of the Athletic Training graduate program at Radford University is to provide students with the opportunity to earn a graduate degree in athletic training, which will allows students to sit for the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainer’s (BOC) examination. Athletic trainers are recognized by the American Medical Association as allied health care professionals, and they are involved in the treatment of people of all ages. They prevent, assess, treat and provide rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries. In addition, they are often first to provide immediate care and treatment of injury. Athletic trainers work under the supervision of physicians to provide health care for clients in multiple settings including high schools, universities, hospitals, rehabilitation clinics and physician offices.
Radford University’s athletic training program focuses on preparing students to become exceptional clinical athletic trainers in a variety of work settings. As part of their preparation, students will complete two years of intensive clinical preparation.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
