UIndy's Master of Arts in Applied Sociology program provides students with the critical thinking and research skills needed in today's ever changing world. It emphasizes the practical application of social science research in solving contemporary social problems, and helps students develop skills that can be used in a variety of organizations. Our program also provides strong foundation work for PhD programs.
Community leadership
Students who complete the community leadership concentration tend to work in administrative positions for nonprofits, in macro-level community or social service agencies, in city planning or in other government agencies. Some of our graduates, for example, found jobs as executive or assistant directors, coordinators, community organizers or advocates at locations such as Christamore House (supporting low income families), IndyCan (working for immigrant justice), and HealthNet Homeless Initiative, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Community Hospital, Washington Township School System, and the Indianapolis Public School System.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
