Program Overview

This course will provide you with experience and confidence in the field of learning disabilities nursing – with an emphasis on leadership and shaping a culture of care.

Designed in collaboration with partners in the NHS, the private and voluntary sector, as well as carers and service users, the course provides you with the skills, experience and confidence necessary for a career in Learning Disabilities Nursing. There will also be a strong emphasis on leadership and shaping a culture of care.

In the first year you’ll learn skills fundamental to providing good quality care while learning to lead and manage yourself. In your second year you’ll consider leading and managing care. The third year will focus on leading and managing service to develop your abilities to lead a team and drive service innovation.

You’ll work in supportive teams with practice and academic experts, mentors and personal tutors. Your course is 50% theory and 50% practice and commences with a six-week introductory block with regular placements in professional healthcare settings, allowing you to work with service users, their carers and care providers.
