Diploma in Animal Science Technology - Livestock Major

Program Overview

Launch your future in the livestock industry with Lakeland’s animal science livestock science major.

You’ll start on the Student-Managed Farm (SMF) – powered by New Holland on day one.

You’ll gain a broad view of different sectors from both the production and business side. Our courses are species specific. You’ll choose between beef and dairy production for your in-depth study, but you’ll also learn about bison, horses and sheep.

While you’ll have time in the classroom, you’ll have ample time with hands-on learning on the college farm. This starts with livestock handling and goes to making decisions and solving problems as part of a SMF team. You’ll follow the production cycle – breeding, feeding and selling.

If you chose the practicum route, you’ll also put your learning into action with a project and capstone presentation.

Whatever your choice, you’ll connect with award-winning faculty and fellow students. You’ll learn from each other through case studies, mentorship and teamwork. You’ll refine your leadership, business and marketing skills.

You’ll go beyond the classroom to connect and network in the industry.

When you graduate, you’ll have the hands-on and leadership skills to work successfully anywhere in the livestock industry
