Program Overview

Got a passion for creative design? Not quite ready to undertake a full honours degree? Solent University’s Design Foundation Programme is perfectly suited to students who may not be from a fashion-related background or whose qualifications do not meet the admissions requirements for BA (Hons) Fashion Management with Marketing.

To help get you up to speed, the one-year foundation course provides all the creative, technical and study skills needed for entry onto BA (Hons) Fashion Management with Marketing.

The foundation year begins with a five-week group project. This enables students to mix with like-minded peers and helps them to settle in quickly. This project also helps students to decide which area they might like to follow at a later stage.

During your three year BA (Hons) Fashion Management with Marketing degree, you’ll study the complete range of professional disciplines within fashion, from retailing, store management and operations to consumer behaviour, fashion buying and merchandising. You'll also have opportunities to gain practical, hands-on experience, leaving you well-prepared for a range of graduate roles.

The course places a strong emphasis on gaining practical skills and work experience. Past students have had the opportunity to set up their own business at our stunning student-run store, Re:So, which sells a unique mix of fashion, accessories, publications, furniture and art.

Throughout the course you will also have the opportunity to go on a range of trips to gain valuable industry insight. Recent trips have included visiting Primark’s largest store in Birmingham and having a guided tour of operations, visiting TM Lewin’s head office and engaging in live projects for Fat Face.
