Master of Research in Geoarchaeology

Program Overview

Our Geoarchaeology MRes will build your theoretical and practical knowledge and skills, preparing you for a career in research, or as a field or laboratory-based geoarchaeologist.

Geoarchaeology forms the core of your learning as you work across different subject areas including; physical geography, palaeoenvironments, sedimentology, GIS and remote sensing, and the Pleistocene epoch.

You will develop your skills in research methodology, data collection and analysis, and geoarchaeological techniques. You’ll study depositional environments and sedimentology, fundamental in understanding the distribution, accessibility and preservation of archaeological sites and artefacts, and the foundation upon which all palaeoenvironmental reconstruction is based.

The course gives you the flexibility to tailor your studies to areas that specifically interest you. You will be linked to our research Centre for Earth Observation Science and your interests matched to the areas of expertise of our renowned researchers who have many years of experience collaborating with universities and industry globally. This provides an opportunity for you to contribute to innovative and impactful research.
