Program Overview

Our MSc Structural Engineering degree will develop your engineering expertise in line with the ever-changing demands of the profession.

We will enhance your knowledge in all the essential areas, from advanced structural analysis to soil-structure engineering, and we will ensure your research skills are sharp enough to give you a competitive edge when you embark on your career. This degree is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) comprising of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Institute of Highway Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation and the Permanent Way Institution on behalf of the Engineering Council as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired a partial CEng accredited undergraduate first degree. *

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

The course includes a number of self-contained, taught modules organised around the various areas of structural engineering. The wide range of subjects covered includes Advanced Structural Analysis, Design in Steel and Concrete, Structural Stability and Dynamics and Soil Structure Engineering.

The taught modules are complemented by a research dissertation project that you will undertake at the end of your course. This dissertation is your route to becoming an accredited chartered engineer.

There is a highly practical emphasis to our MSc. You will learn the theory and then apply it through working on projects in our extensive laboratories and during fieldwork.

These projects will provide you with the learning opportunities and practical skills you will need in your future career. You will graduate with a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the most up-to-date practices and theories in structural engineering.
