Program Overview

Birkbeck’s innovative new LLM in Law and New Technologies is a research-led course that focuses on how new technologies are transforming the way society operates - the way we communicate, the way we work, the way we do business, the way we travel - and the profound consequences of these changes for the law.

The course is centred around seminars in which you will discuss contemporary challenges posed by new technologies. Following an introduction to practical and theoretical ideas on the most pressing questions connected to law and technology, you will then apply these ideas to contemporary world problems such as the erosion of democracy, climate change, economic inequality, political radicalisation, cybercrime and the new wave of automation facing labour markets.

The course is aimed at both law and non-law graduates.
