Master of Law in Commercial Law

Program Overview

Birkbeck’s innovative new LLM in Commercial Law is a research-led course focusing on the law governing private economic relations and businesses. A highly relevant area of legal practice, knowledge of commercial law will prove useful in your career in law or in the corporate sector. It is also an area which raises a series of fundamental questions about our economy.

The LLM degree in Commercial Law helps you gain a thorough and practical knowledge of the most important aspects of modern commercial law. At the same time, we provide you with the tools to critically understand the social relevance of the law of market relations. We incorporate elements of the common law and international law, so this degree is suited for both UK and international students.

Your studies will be centred around small seminars in which we:

  • discuss and assess the key principles of commercial law and market regulation
  • evaluate the national and international socio-economic dimensions
  • appraise different approaches to the regulation of businesses and market relations
  • engage with emergent legal and policy discussions regarding market regulation in a critical and innovative way.

This course is ideal for both law and non-law graduates. It is not a qualifying Law degree, so please consider our LLM Qualifying Law Degree if you wish to obtain such a degree.
