Program Overview

This course is for you if you’re an academic high-flyer. It offers you the exciting opportunity to work on a cutting-edge research project here at Sussex each summer. You’ll gain practical experience of Mathematics research as well as training for your future career. You’ll also get funding to cover your living expenses during that time.

You’ll join our experts and immerse yourself in world-class research. Our research is making a world-changing impact in diverse areas, ranging from smart materials and predicting floods to the behaviour of queues, social networks and infectious disease control. The use of industry-standard software (such as MATLAB, Python and R) develops your analytical and modelling skills. You’ll graduate with the knowledge needed to take your career in any direction you choose.

You’ll be guided throughout your degree by an academic adviser. We’ll support your career development with opportunities to engage with potential employers, while you develop the confidence and competence they’re looking for.

During your research placements and integrated Masters year, you’ll develop new research skills – particularly relevant if you're interested in going on to a research career at universities or in industry.
