Why are we fascinated by images? How do professional photographers use them to illustrate ideas, express viewpoints, convey messages and evoke emotion? Carroll University’s Photography program explores the role of imagery and its meaningful engagement with today’s society. We look at the history, culture, social and technological aspects of communicating visually along with the role of the maker in raising awareness and stimulating thought. You’ll learn how to see the world differently and translate your vision into compelling images that combine advanced artistic and technical skills. Our program offers the depth and breadth of training that prepares you for professional work in a growing field. You’ll find a flexible career path you can create by design, from owning your own studio to traveling the world.
While Carroll’s Photography program focuses on digital photography, you’ll have opportunities to experiment and discover a variety of techniques, as well as their application to contemporary photography. You’ll gain expertise in design and composition as it relates to creative expression, work with essential software and design tools, and become skilled in using both natural and studio lighting to their best advantage. You’ll gain knowledge in digital video and storyboarding techniques, and learn how to shoot, enhance audio and edit short works to completion.
You’ll acquire real world experience through a required internship in professional photography, as well as assignments in portraiture, documentary, motion, fashion, commercial, product, architecture and travel photography. As a senior, you’ll showcase your knowledge by creating a professional portfolio and website and participating in a gallery exhibition of your work. You’ll graduate prepared to work as a professional photographer in a variety of commercial and fine art settings, or further your education in graduate school.
