Studying Music at Sussex, you’ll interrogate cultural hierarchies in music by experimenting with different musical styles. You’ll question the supposed ‘elitism’ of classical music, gender in music or the role of music in contemporary society.
You’ll benefit from the expertise of our faculty who are leading the latest developments in music culture. This includes writing opera for robots, looking at music’s role in natural ecosystems and redefining histories of popular music. You’ll also benefit from our connections with local music organisations, including Glyndebourne and The Rose Hill.
You’ll have the opportunity to develop your performance skills individually and in groups, and write and produce your own music in our specialist facilities, including:
