The issues-driven emphasis allows you to focus on any number of pressing contemporary geopolitical issues. In addition to core courses in political systems, global politics, globalization and research methods, you may choose to study environmental sustainability, international conflict and security, global health, international law, the history and place of non-Western societies in the making of the modern world and the rise and functioning of non-governmental organizations.
Any decision, whether made by a government or a business, has potentially wide-ranging international impacts. We are interconnected, tangled and interdependent. The economy in southeast Wisconsin can be affected by events in Asia; the air we breathe by Canadian environmental regulations; and even our health by the appearance of a strange new micro-organism in the Tropics. The challenges seem larger than ever and the world smaller. Our global studies program helps students understand the complex relationships at work and become adept at finding solutions to challenging issues.
If subjects such as politics, international relations, policy making, sustainability or macroeconomics interest you, you’ll appreciate Carroll University’s interdisciplinary program. We combine courses in political science, economics, philosophy, history, religious studies, environmental science and public health. And you’ll select an emphasis that adds focus in economics, geopolitical issues or world regions. In the economics track, you can study micro- and macroeconomics, trade theory and international economics. In the issues track, you can narrow your focus to topics such as international conflict and security, sustainability or global health. And in the regional track, you can focus on challenges critical to specific regions of the world, such as Africa and Asia, and learn about the tension between developed and developing nations.
