Carroll University’s educational studies program prepares you for a variety of education-related careers outside of the traditional K-12 classrooms. You’ll learn about the variety of ways in which education occurs in our society, the history of schooling and innovative approaches to education. You’ll also study approaches to special education, teaching students with exceptional needs, and the psychology of development and learning. In addition, you’ll work one-on-one with a faculty mentor to select other courses that relate to your career interests.
Our educational studies program builds the foundation for a flexible career with a variety of options, such as social work, corporate training, human resources positions, literacy development, social service agencies, tutoring, workforce development, sales, community education and many more. An educational studies major can also help prepare you for graduate studies in programs such as school psychology, guidance counseling, school social work, occupational therapy or physical therapy. Note that this major does not lead to teacher certification.
Carroll has a rich tradition of teaching excellence, and the exceptional quality of our education programs is recognized by educators and administrators in area school districts and educational organizations. Our strong community and school partnerships ensure that you’ll receive extensive experiences in learning, teaching and networking while at Carroll. These embedded internship and field experiences provide opportunities to apply theory on teaching and learning to real-world scenarios.
