This course is highly expansive course, covering both the technology and business sides of IT, and as part of your studies you’ll explore and learn relevant IT theories and principles that underpin the IT industry.

Work-integrated learning (WIL) is an integral component of the Bachelor of Information Technology journey as it gives students the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience and build professional relationships through real work, or work-like placements.
This, in turn, enhances each student’s confidence, employability and reinforces the university’s commitment to preparing professional and highly employable graduates with the right mix of skills, knowledge, and experience.
As part of this approach UC fosters close industry connections who offer preferential access to work placement positions and training opportunities with companies such as Dialog Information Technology, Pursuit Technology, CycleLifeHQ, Birdsnest, Australian Sports Commission, Agsafe, Kiah Consulting, ALLBIDS, ThoughtPatterns Consulting, ESKAPEE, Carers ACT, the Department of Defence’s Chief Information Officer Group, Emanate Technology, Getaboutable.com and Clearz Defence.
In your final year, you’ll also have the chance to complete a real-world industry capstone project while working in teams to produce and implement an IT system for a local business, government or community organisation.
Specialist Major: Cybersecurity and System Administration
The major in Cybersecurity and System Administration provides an opportunity for the students to gain specialist technical knowledge and practical skills in understanding the security threats and challenges associated with digital transformation and IT enabled solutions. It will allow proficiency in identifying, diagnosing, analysing and handling the challenges associated with computer crime, sound understanding of concepts associated with digital forensics, and expert skills in evaluating software for security vulnerabilities, performing risk assessments, designing and securing operating systems, networks, websites and databases, and responding to cyber security incidents. An intensive, extended work-integrated learning experience and the capstone project will allow the students in this course to practice the cyber security and system administration skills. This major allows graduates to seek roles as cyber security specialists, security consultants, cryptographers, IT security engineers and digital law enforcement specialists.

Students who have completed their studies in Australia can apply for a Post Study Work Permit or a Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) to continue working in Australia post the completion of their study programs. As an international student, one can apply for the visa but not later than six months after completing your course. But to be eligible, you must meet the Australian Study Requirements, which include a minimum of 16 months of stay in Australia and a completing 92 weeks of a course registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).
